EYEWITNESS REPORT OF IMPOSITION OF PRISON TERM FOR ENDANGERING CHILDREN
I received the following eyewitness report from a survivor who was in the Philadelphia courtroom on Tuesday when Msgr. William Lynn was sentenced by Commons Pleas Judge M. Teresa Sarmina for his conviction of the felony of child endangerment after he lacked the courage to buck his Cardinal and took the easy way out by exposing children to monster priests who sexually abused them. I pass it along to our readers.
“The defense started the circus around 9:15am. They brought to the well 7 character witnesses for Lynn. One after the other they started to cry major tears and testified to the Judge that he was the saint that Jesus sent us. It was painful at worst and comical at best. . . . This was unbearable. The litany went on for two hours. 7 advocates of Lynn, one after the other,crying for mercy. I was trying to get eye contact with anyone of them as they threw the the crying towel in…This was Broadway at its best. This lasted over 2 hours.
The Judge . . . put up with all the fanfare with a smile but when it was over you could see in her eyes that she was not a happy camper.
On to the DA statements. Assistant DA went from mild to ballistic in five minutes….pointing at Lynn most of the time and finally said….you are a good priest…however…you are a convicted felon of child endangerment…..oh my god..he never let up….he went into the letter from supporters and tore a new a__…his showmanship was one to see…..I was blown away…this attorney was on a mission from another world. He kept the tone up and never let go. He stated the facts over and over and asked who ever was listening if Mercy was the right avenue.
He mentioned the defense analogy of the Statue of Justice which has a blind fold and he took it to another level. He said….the symbol of justice has two hands and one of them has a sword. The sword is for justice. And this convicted felon offered no mercy to the victims….now is the time to offer no mercy to him.
The crowd was speakless and quiet……..fast forward…because the DA kept hammering home the filth…….
The Judge starts to read from a lengthy letter she put together……..she starts with the positives about Lynn and his community services etc. and helping families and parishiners etc…..this was lengthy…she set the table and now it is time to eat……after she goes through 20 pages of why the courts did what they did…..here comes the hammer…..she starts slowly to get hisses and it never stops….she called him everything that he was……facilitator of monsters in clerical garb……OUCH….she finally told him to stand for his sentencing……..without a flich she said 3 years minimum and 6 year maximum…..with a bunch of legal stuff after that….. The reporters where like lemmings to the street….the elevator was packed…..the energy was like a blastoff.”
