SISTER MAUREEN TAKES ON THE PHILADELPHIA ARCHBISHOP

I recommend that anyone concerned about justice for survivors of childhood sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic church read Sister Maureen Paul Turlish’s column which just appeared in the May 26, 2012 Delaware County Daily Times.  You can find it online at

Sister Maureen is an unflagging advocate for justice for all survivors and a throwback to the days of Dorothy Day and others who sought justice in that church for the least of those found in our society.   She is what we always imagined a nun to be and is certainly one of those the Pope in Rome recently blasted when he declared war on nuns in the U.S. for being too uppity, too concerned for the least in society, and too out of step with the male dominated managers of that church.

In her column she calls the current archbishop of Philadelphia, Charles Chaput, to task for failing to protect children historically and for simply trying to manage the problem through public relations and not true reform.  She demanded that Chaput step out of the way of enactment of window legislation in Pennsylvania so that survivors can obtain justice for the crimes committed on them.
